Ironman Brazil will take place on May 30, 2010 on the beautiful island of Florianopolis. Florianopolis is also known as the "Island of Dreams" and has 42 beautiful beaches. It is a favorite hang-out for dolphins and whales. Brazilians and Argentines love to vacation in Florianopolis not only for its beaches but also for its culture, history, food, nightlife, and well protected diverse ecosystems. Under the natural beauty and climate of the Florianopolis magical island, just an hour flight away from Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo City, Ironman Brazil, which has been organized by Latin Sports since 2001, has seen an exponential growth from the 250 competitors in 2000 to over 1,000 the last few years. More than this, the race's reinforcement in the international circuit may be proved by the fact that most of the athletes come from abroad.
The Brasil Ironman course is fast, scenic, and safe. The ocean swim is beach-protected, so there is virtually no chop. The two-lap triangular swim course will be wetsuit legal. The bike course starts from the transition area at Jurere Beach, and is fast on good, mostly flat road surfaces with a couple of "decent" hills. The out-and-back run course will be completely illuminated and in an open-air mall near the central transition area. Both the transition and finish area are near a water park and good shopping, so your loved ones will have something to do while you're busy putting in your hours on the course.

Jurere Beach Village
The Headquarters Hotel for Ironman Brazil, the Jurere Beach Village is a very modern hotel located right on the beach with a beautiful restaurant overlooking the pool. This is the most up-scale of the hotels on offer and is about 2.5k from the race start. The balconies offer an ocean view or a pool and partial ocean view and there is a choice of either studios or one-bedroom suites.

The Hotel Lexus is an ocean front hotel in the town of Canasvieiras. The Hotel Lexus is located on the run course 7k from the start/finish area and within a block of the shops and restaurants of Canasvieiras. Many of the rooms have a view of the ocean and others are ocean front rooms. There are also inland view rooms that are very inexpensive and overlook the town. The hotel offers 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. This is a perfect hotel for triathlon clubs or a large group of friends traveling together as there is a large price range on the ground package so it should accommodate most people's taste and budget. Friends can also stay just next door at the Lexus Plaza and enjoy dinner with you at the Hotel Lexus.

The Campanario is the newest and most luxurious hotel in the Jurere area. The Campanario will open in December. Endurance Sports Travel will be offering packages using this hotel which is located just 1 km from the Ironman Brazil race site. This means you can either purchase your own air ticket or use frequent flier tickets for your travel. Please look at the following before doing either of these to be sure that this is best for you.

2. Some frequent flier tickets will only get you to Sao Paulo and the internal ticket to Florianopolis is very expensive.

Auto
Transportation between hotel and airport and daily transportation within Jurere and Canasvieiras is included in the hotel package. Therefore a rental car is not necessary. However, if you want a rental car, one can be arranged for you from our staff office in your hotel or with EST prior to arrival in Florianopolis.
Visa Information
US and Canadian citizens need to have a visa to travel to Brazil. Citizens of some other countries are also required to have a Brazilian Visa to enter the country.
Citizens of EU countries do not need a Brazilian Visa. It is best to apply for a Tourist Visa (5yrs). Mentioning the race may yield a limited (90 day) visa and complicates the process but this is your decision.
You can contact the Brazilian Embassy nearest you, however, we advise using a visa service to avoid hassles. We have used visa services and they are very convenient but it does add an extra cost to the process. If you apply early, working directly with the Embassy shouldn't be a problem. The service we are most familiar with is Zierer Visa Service.
Visas can only be applied for within 90 days of travel but I suggest that you apply in March so that you do not have any problems. If you have been to Brazil recently check the visa stamp in your passport as most tourist visas are good for multiple entries of 90 days for 5 years from when you received the visa stamp. Make sure your passport does not expire soon, it must be valid for at least 6 months after your trip is scheduled to end.

Pre-Race Trips
These trips will be offered the week before and/or the week after the race. Individual and small group trips can be arranged for both before and after the race especially for the "adventure sports" activities. Times and prices (most are less than $30) will be listed as soon as all details are worked out. Monday night's dinner and show in the city is included in the travel package. Any group dinners after the race are already paid for in your package price.
1 - ESCORTED BIKE RIDE OF THE COURSE
This will be your best chance to RIDE the entire bike course (1 loop - 56 miles) on your bike. Ken Glah will lead this trip on the Sunday morning before the race for those planning on arriving on or before Saturday, May 20. It will be a very mellow pace so all can enjoy the experience riding the course before the race. There are parts of the course that are best not ridden during the week as the course does go into the city of Florianopolis so we will only be offering this FREE ESCORTED TRIP on SUNDAY MORNING.
2 - COURSE TOUR
This is your opportunity to see the bike and run course for the race. Both competitors and there family and friends are invite on this tour which will take place by bus or minibus. A great way for athletes to mentally plan for their race and a chance for family and friends to see the course their athletes will be taking on race day.
3 - CITY TOUR
A fantastic ride to historical center where you can appreciate beautiful buildings of XVII century and also museums, the bridge of Hercilio Luz, Morro da Cruz (Christ hill) from the top of which you can see a spectacle view of Florianopolis. Then we are off to Conceicao Lake for one the best panoramic views of the Island. For those looking for some adventure, sandboarding on the dunes is an option as well.
4 - SCUBA BOAT RIDE
Navigate along the North coast of the island and visit the Fort of St. Cruz that was built in 18th century by Portuguese navigators. Discover the beauty of the dolphins and enjoy incredible views of the Isle de Santa Catarina. There will be a stop near the French Island for those interested in a short relaxing swim and lunch will be served.
5 - SHOPPING TRIP
There will be a couple of different shopping trips to the Beira Mar Mall, downtown shops as well as arts and craft areas. These trips are a good way to see some of the city and buy gifts for yourself and friends back home.
6 - CULTURAL TRIP
This trip that will take you to cultural areas of the island like the craftsman in the Acoriana House and also the foundation Eli Hei. On this trip you have opportunity to taste oysters and seafood of the region as well as learning about the beautiful Isle de Santa Catarina.
7 - TREKKING AND SANDBOARDING
You will get to see the beauty of the Isle de Santa Catarina during this wonderful hike through the forest. Some of the most spectacular views of the whole island can be seen such as the giant sand dunes, the lagoon, small fishing villages, and forest preserves. The hike is only about 45 minutes will be a great way to help loosen tight muscles. We will board boats for a short trip on the lagoon and then stop for lunch in the Lake of Conceicao. After lunch it is off to the Sand Dunes to either sand board or watch others do so. We will stop at an arts and crafts shop on the way home. This is a trip not to be missed!!!!
8 - BETO CARRERO WORLD
The biggest amusement park in South American. Included in the attractions and rides are the Radical Tower (300 foot free fall), Pirate Island, the World of the Animals, Fantasy Land, Star World Mountain and many other exciting things to do that will be great fun for both kids and adults.
9 - SNORKELING AND DISCOVERY DIVE
An undersea adventure in the biological reserve of the Arvoredo. The best place in the south of Brazil. You will see many kinds of the fish. This will be a great adventure for all that wish to take part and all equipment is provided. Snorkeling: adventure with basic equipment. Discovery Dive: you will be 30 feet undersea with an instructor
10 - ECO-TOUR
Florianopolis has many different ecosystems and trips will be planned to let you enjoy and learn about some of these various areas of the island. These trips may include hiking as well as small boat rides through estuaries.

Program starts with a cruise down river, visiting the meeting of the waters (Negro and Solimoes River), Then a short visit to a floating Village with 30 families (it is a very interesting place where the guest will have an idea of how people live on floating houses) and then we will go to Janauarilandia Park to have a catwalk view of the giant water lilies. Lunch in on Board. Afterwards the group will do an excursion in small canoes into the Igapo (annually flooded forest). Departure by boat from Janauarilandia to Jacareubal. Dinner on Board. 2nd Day

HOW TO PACK
We recommend that you bring a small backpack along with your main gear. This will help you pack for off trips and nights we spend in the jungle. The following items are also recommended: light cotton T-shirts, a cotton sweater and sweat pants, several pairs of socks, jeans or nylon long pants, shorts, old trekking shoes or hiking boots, a hat, sun glasses, a pair of flip flops, swimming suit, towel, sun screen, a small flashlight, a pair of binoculars, zip lock bags to store and protect film and other items from water, a rain coat (if you must).
We have more Eco-friendly alternatives to bug repellents, but you may wish to bring your own. In that case, notice that it must contain 'deet' for it to work.

Dolphin Lodge Adventure and Educational Experience Schedule
1st Day
Take a speedboat to the village of Careiro da Varzea where we will pass by where Negro and Solimões River meet (meeting of the waters). This is where the Amazon River is formed running from this area towards to the Atlantic Ocean.
After a stop at the fruit market, take a bus or a van to the Araca River via the Manaus-Porto highway. By boat we pass many lakes, creeks, water lillies with enormous floating leaves and native village and communities. An ideal spot for all type of wild life: birds, alligators, fish, snakes, monkeys, and more. Arrival at Dolphin Lodge. Lunch will be fresh water fish, beef , chicken, salads and exotic fruits from the Amazon. After lunch, there is a motorized canoe trip. Through this trip you'll get to observe many animals such as monkeys, sloth, iguanas, spiders and a wide variety of birds. Dinner is served at Dolphin Lodge restaurant.
2nd Day
Early morning sunrise and bird watching. Jungle trek to learn a bit about survival with our experienced guides, techniques how to use vines as ropes, how to climb trees, how to find water and also food. Of course you'll learn about our fauna and biodiversity. After lunch we go canoeing with oars to watch more birds and animals such as sloths and monkeys. Then we return to the Lodge for dinner, afterwards, you have opportunity to see the beautiful glow of the moon and hear the sounds of the creatures wandering around in the jungle.
3rd Day
Visit a caboclo's house to learn about their customs and culture. We'll visit rubber and cassava plantations, and others. See how to collect fruits, Brazil nuts, herbs, vegetables and spices. Check out how they prepare their food using all this goods and taste some of this exotic product. Lunch follows. Afternoon piranha fishing. After dinner we leave on canoes for night wild life watching and also the alligator spoting with flash lights, we will catch it with our bare hands.
4th Day
Early trip to visit creeks. Beautiful flooded forest areas (igapos), small channels (igarape) and lakes to swim in. On the lakes you will see fresh water dolphins, the Pink Dolphin (Boto cor de Rosa) and the Grey Dolphin (Boto Tucuxi). Back to Dolphin Lodge, Lunch. Transfer back to Manaus by the same itinerary.
Natal (4 days/ 3 nights)
Going south from Natal, beaches soon appear one after the other. Continuing along a 80 km road from the capital is the beach of Pipa, the wildest of all the beaches that still retains a natural charm that attracts those who want to get away from big city bustle. The beaches' shifting dunes, warm, clear water, lakes and coconut groves attract both Brazilian and foreign tourists all year round. Buggy rides along the vast white sands are the highlight of some of the beaches. The dunes are also suitable for sand-skiing using a type of skate (without wheels) so that it's possible slide down them.

These trips will be offered the week before and/or the week after the race. Individual and small group trips can be arranged for both before and after the race especially for the "adventure sports" activities. 1 - ESCORTED BIKE RIDE OF THE COURSE
This will be your best chance to RIDE the entire bike course (1 loop - 56 miles) on your bike. Ken Glah will lead this trip on the Sunday morning before the race for those planning on arriving on or before Saturday, May 20. It will be a very mellow pace so all can enjoy the experience riding the course before the race. There are parts of the course that are best not ridden during the week as the course does go into the city of Florianopolis so we will only be offering this FREE ESCORTED TRIP on SUNDAY MORNING.
2 - COURSE TOUR
This is your opportunity to see the bike and run course for the race. Both competitors and there family and friends are invite on this tour which will take place by bus or minibus. A great way for athletes to mentally plan for their race and a chance for family and friends to see the course their athletes will be taking on race day.
3 - CITY TOUR
A fantastic ride to historical center where you can appreciate beautiful buildings of XVII century and also museums, the bridge of Hercilio Luz, Morro da Cruz (Christ hill) from the top of which you can see a spectacle view of Florianopolis. Then we are off to Conceicao Lake for one the best panoramic views of the Island. For those looking for some adventure, sandboarding on the dunes is an option as well.
4 - SCUBA BOAT RIDE
Navigate along the North coast of the island and visit the Fort of St. Cruz that was built in 18th century by Portuguese navigators. Discover the beauty of the dolphins and enjoy incredible views of the Isle de Santa Catarina. There will be a stop near the French Island for those interested in a short relaxing swim and lunch will be served.
5 - SHOPPING TRIP
There will be a couple of different shopping trips to the Beira Mar Mall, downtown shops as well as arts and craft areas. These trips are a good way to see some of the city and buy gifts for yourself and friends back home.
6 - CULTURAL TRIP
This trip that will take you to cultural areas of the island like the craftsman in the Acoriana House and also the foundation Eli Hei. On this trip you have opportunity to taste oysters and seafood of the region as well as learning about the beautiful Isle de Santa Catarina.
7 - TREKKING AND SANDBOARDING
You will get to see the beauty of the Isle de Santa Catarina during this wonderful hike through the forest. Some of the most spectacular views of the whole island can be seen such as the giant sand dunes, the lagoon, small fishing villages, and forest preserves. The hike is only about 45 minutes will be a great way to help loosen tight muscles. We will board boats for a short trip on the lagoon and then stop for lunch in the Lake of Conceicao. After lunch it is off to the Sand Dunes to either sand board or watch others do so. We will stop at an arts and crafts shop on the way home. This is a trip not to be missed!!!!
8 - BETO CARRERO WORLD
The biggest amusement park in South American. Included in the attractions and rides are the Radical Tower (300 foot free fall), Pirate Island, the World of the Animals, Fantasy Land, Star World Mountain and many other exciting things to do that will be great fun for both kids and adults.
9 - SNORKELING AND DISCOVERY DIVE
An undersea adventure in the biological reserve of the Arvoredo. The best place in the south of Brazil. You will see many kinds of the fish. This will be a great adventure for all that wish to take part and all equipment is provided. Snorkeling: adventure with basic equipment. Amazon Cruise Schedule
1st Day
Program starts with a cruise down river, visiting the meeting of the waters (Negro and Solimoes River), Then a short visit to a floating Village with 30 families (it is a very interesting place where the guest will have an idea of how people live on floating houses) and then we will go to Janauarilandia Park to have a catwalk view of the giant water lilies. Lunch in on Board. Afterwards the group will do an excursion in small canoes into the Igapo (annually flooded forest). Departure by boat from Janauarilandia to Jacareubal. Dinner on Board. Overnight on Hammocks
2nd Day
Departure to Acajatuba River. Breakfast on board. Trekking in the Rainforest with your tour guide and also a local guide from the Arara Community. During the Trek the group will get information about the flora and fauna of the region, including medicinal plants. After trekking, lunch on Board, and time for swimming in the River. Piranha Fishing and Sunset tour Dinner on board

HOW TO PACK
We recommend that you bring a small backpack along with your main gear. This will help you pack for off trips and nights we spend in the jungle. The following items are also recommended: light cotton T-shirts, a cotton sweater and sweat pants, several pairs of socks, jeans or nylon long pants, shorts, old trekking shoes or hiking boots, a hat, sun glasses, a pair of flip flops, swimming suit, towel, sun screen, a small flashlight, a pair of binoculars, zip lock bags to store and protect film and other items from water, a rain coat (if you must).
We have more Eco-friendly alternatives to bug repellents, but you may wish to bring your own. In that case, notice that it must contain 'deet' for it to work.
Dolphin Lodge (4 days/3 nights)
The Amazon rain forest is cut by the Equator line and spreads through a vast area of Brazil's northern region. The Amazon River emerges where two other rivers meet (Solimoes and Negro). Manaus, the capital of the state, is located at the banks of Negro river, a few miles from there.

Dolphin Lodge Adventure and Educational Experience Schedule
1st Day
Take a speedboat to the village of Careiro da Varzea where we will pass by where Negro and Solimões River meet (meeting of the waters). This is where the Amazon River is formed running from this area towards to the Atlantic Ocean.
After a stop at the fruit market, take a bus or a van to the Araca River via the Manaus-Porto highway. By boat we pass many lakes, creeks, water lillies with enormous floating leaves and native village and communities. An ideal spot for all type of wild life: birds, alligators, fish, snakes, monkeys, and more. Arrival at Dolphin Lodge. Lunch will be fresh water fish, beef , chicken, salads and exotic fruits from the Amazon. After lunch, there is a motorized canoe trip. Through this trip you'll get to observe many animals such as monkeys, sloth, iguanas, spiders and a wide variety of birds. Dinner is served at Dolphin Lodge restaurant.
2nd Day
Early morning sunrise and bird watching. Jungle trek to learn a bit about survival with our experienced guides, techniques how to use vines as ropes, how to climb trees, how to find water and also food. Of course you'll learn about our fauna and biodiversity. After lunch we go canoeing with oars to watch more birds and animals such as sloths and monkeys. Then we return to the Lodge for dinner, afterwards, you have opportunity to see the beautiful glow of the moon and hear the sounds of the creatures wandering around in the jungle.
3rd Day
Visit a caboclo's house to learn about their customs and culture. We'll visit rubber and cassava plantations, and others. See how to collect fruits, Brazil nuts, herbs, vegetables and spices. Check out how they prepare their food using all this goods and taste some of this exotic product. Lunch follows. Afternoon piranha fishing. After dinner we leave on canoes for night wild life watching and also the alligator spoting with flash lights, we will catch it with our bare hands.
4th Day
Early trip to visit creeks. Beautiful flooded forest areas (igapos), small channels (igarape) and lakes to swim in. On the lakes you will see fresh water dolphins, the Pink Dolphin (Boto cor de Rosa) and the Grey Dolphin (Boto Tucuxi). Back to Dolphin Lodge, Lunch. Transfer back to Manaus by the same itinerary.
Natal (4 days/ 3 nights)
Going south from Natal, beaches soon appear one after the other. Continuing along a 80 km road from the capital is the beach of Pipa, the wildest of all the beaches that still retains a natural charm that attracts those who want to get away from big city bustle. The beaches' shifting dunes, warm, clear water, lakes and coconut groves attract both Brazilian and foreign tourists all year round. Buggy rides along the vast white sands are the highlight of some of the beaches. The dunes are also suitable for sand-skiing using a type of skate (without wheels) so that it's possible slide down them.
Imira Plaza
Located in the best area of the Praia de Ponta Negra, only 100 meters from the beach only 15 minutes from the airport and next to array of restaurants and entertainment activities.
