On April 25, 2010 Ironman racing will once again come to the shores of Nelson Mandela Bay, an exciting holiday destination that features beautiful beaches and a wide range of wildlife attractions. The Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa triathlon has been well received by this endurance sports savvy country. The race is like no other. The African dancers and musicians entertain not only at the pasta party and awards ceremony - they are on hand for the race start and at the finish line, too. Both the pasta and awards ceremony dinner are served to you at your table family style - no standing in lines! 

The race features a two lap swim in the bay, a two lap bike on closed roads both inland and along a spectacular shoreline, and a run that mostly follows the coast with slight undulations.

Along with the beauty of the race, the friendly people of Port Elizabeth make race day a spectacular experience. Close to town are a number of private wildlife parks that can be easily visited in day trips either before or after the race. Also, just half an hour from town is the half million acre Addo Elephant Park. For those looking to experience even more of this great country a 3 or 4 day drive along the Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Capetown comes highly recommended. For those wanting even more wildlife adventure one can also visit Kruger National Park or one of many other parks throughout South Africa.

Garden Court King's Beach

The hotel is situated in a residential area of Port Elizabeth, 1km from the race start, with a magnificent view of the Indian ocean, and is centrally situated close to major shopping and entertainment centres, as well as to the local airport. Surrounding the hotel are the wonderful Algoa Bay beaches, offering an abundance of bathing areas around which to relax and enjoy the warm, inviting climate. Within walking distance is an entertainment complex with a wide variety of activities. The beachfront offers a weekly fleamarket where all homemade products are sold. At the Bay World Oceanarium, just next door to the hotel, you can enjoy a day of dolphin shows. Snake handling demonstrations, leisurely walks through the Tropical House or the opportunity for a stroll through Port Elizabeth's Museum, are all nearby.

Air Travel
For this race we do a ground only package so please feel free to go online and arrange a flight that is best for you with regards to dates, flight itinerary and price. Before purchasing tickets consider whether you are doing any after race trips to other parts of South Africa that require a flight from Port Elizabeth to that destination. All of EST's airport transfers are to and from Port Elizabeth Airport.

Auto
Transportation between hotel and airport is included in the ground package. Therefore, you should not need a rental car. However, if you desire, we can arrange for an auto rental for you.

Visa
